DYSAUTONOMIA

Dysautonomia refers to a dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system (ANS)—the system that unconsciously regulates essential body functions like heart rate, blood pressure, temperature control, digestion, and more.

Patients with dysautonomia often feel like their body is “glitching” in ways no one else can see—intense fatigue, dizziness when standing, irregular heartbeats, anxiety-like episodes, digestive upset, brain fog, or even blackouts.

They’re often told their tests look “normal” or that it’s all in their head.

At Vital Balance Brain + Spine, we specialize in working with patients whose autonomic regulation has broken down, and we offer a neurologically-based approach to restoring that internal balance.

What Causes Dysautonomia?

The autonomic nervous system is made up of two main branches:

  • Sympathetic (fight or flight)

  • Parasympathetic (rest and digest)

Ideally, these systems should shift fluidly depending on your environment. But when the brainstem, vagus nerve, or upper cervical spine are under chronic stress—or have been injured—this push-pull balance becomes distorted, and symptoms begin to cascade.

Triggers often include:

  • Head injuries or concussions

  • Whiplash or car accidents

  • Viral infections

  • Chronic emotional or physiologic stress

  • Mold, chemical, or toxic exposures

  • Longstanding structural misalignments

How We Help

We use objective neurologic testing to evaluate eye movement integrity, vagal tone, brainstem function, and autonomic reflexes. From there, we tailor a specific plan to help reboot your system from the top down.

What makes us different:

  • Upper cervical adjustments to reduce brainstem irritation

  • HRV (Heart Rate Variability) tracking to monitor autonomic adaptability

  • Vestibular and visual retraining to stabilize your internal mapping

  • Gait and postural reflex evaluation to uncover hidden imbalances

  • Breathwork, vagus nerve stimulation, and grounding protocols for parasympathetic restoration

Common Diagnoses We Work With:

  • Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS)

  • Orthostatic Hypotension

  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/ME)

  • Long COVID-related dysautonomia

  • Anxiety-like symptoms with no psychiatric origin

Your body is not broken—it’s out of balance.

At Vital Balance, we don’t chase symptoms. We correct the nervous system patterns that cause them. If you're ready to stop bouncing between specialists and start rebuilding your autonomic resilience, we’re here to help.
