FAQ

  • What makes Vital Balance different from the mainstream approach?
At Vital Balance, we’re proud to be redefining what modern patient care looks like—blending cutting-edge technology with holistic, non-invasive treatment to restore lasting brain-body balance without drugs or surgery. We’re the only clinic in Cincinnati that combines: Infrared eye-tracking (RightEye) to detect subtle brain imbalances 3D CBCT imaging for the most precise view of spinal and cranial alignment Orthospinology techniques for safe, accurate upper cervical corrections These tools are at the leading edge of neurologic healthcare—and we integrate them all in one place. On top of that, our care goes beyond standard cookie-cutter treatment. Every treatment is a custom blend of hands-on manual therapy, neurologic stimulation, functional rehab, and brain-based chiropractic adjustments designed to activate your specific ability to heal, adapt, and perform at its best.
  • Do I need to be in pain to benefit from your care?
Pain is often the loudest motivator for change—and many of our patients come to us because they’re tired of temporary fixes like injections, muscle relaxers, or heat packs. They want lasting relief by correcting the root cause, not just masking symptoms. But your mother was right: an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. It’s far easier (and more effective) to fix imbalances before they turn into pain. That’s why our philosophy is “health by choice, not by chance.” When you listen to your body when it whispers, you won’t have to hear it scream later.
  • Can this help even if I just want better performance?
Absolutely. Many of our patients are pain-free but want to take their mobility, coordination, focus, or recovery to the next level. Whether it’s a weekend pickleball match, a 10K run, or elite-level athletic competition, performance depends on how well your brain and body communicate. We specialize in optimizing that brain-body connection through precise assessments and neurologically focused care—giving you a stronger foundation to move, compete, and live with more power and control.
  • If I get started, will I have to continue coming forever?
Great question—and a completely valid concern. At Vital Balance, our goal is not to keep you dependent on care, but to help you reach a point of true balance and stability as efficiently as possible. That’s the purpose of your customized corrective care plan. That said, the human body—like anything of value—requires maintenance. Just like you wouldn’t expect lifelong fitness from one season in the gym, lasting health requires ongoing attention. Life is full of different stressors that can throw us off balance, which is why most patients choose to stay on a maintenance plan, typically just once a month, to preserve the progress we’ve made. Our maintenance members also receive additional perks: supplement discounts, family rate options, advanced health workshops, a complementary month of unlimited Activate Brain + Body Fitness classes, and most importantly, priority access to care if any new issues arise—even if we’re on a waitlist for new patients. It’s not about “forever”—it’s about staying ahead, not starting over.
  • What is your pricing?
Our new patient special includes a comprehensive consultation and exam for $99. If our doctor determines that imaging is clinically necessary, advanced digital X-rays or 3D CBCT scans may be required, which range from $150 to $350 depending on what’s needed. From there, your treatment or maintenance plan will be completely customized based on your unique findings, goals, and needs—there’s no one-size-fits-all approach here. Some patients only need a few visits, while others require a more in-depth corrective plan. Once we assess what’s going on, we’ll walk you through your recommendations and the payment options for the plan step-by-step, with no pressure. Our goal is to create lasting results, not endless appointments.
  • How can you tell that my brain and body are becoming more adaptable?
Great question. At Vital Balance, we use advanced technology to measure a key indicator of adaptability called Heart Rate Variability (HRV). HRV reflects the variation in time between each heartbeat—offering a powerful window into how well your brain, heart, lungs, and nervous system are communicating and adapting in real time. Experts often refer to HRV as your “adaptive potential.” Think of it like a stress bucket: your body works constantly to keep you in balance—adjusting temperature, breathing, digestion, and more in response to stress. But that bucket can only hold so much. When it overflows, the body stops adapting efficiently, and symptoms of dysfunction or chronic disease begin to appear. Our goal is to increase the size of that bucket—helping your nervous system handle more stress without tipping into imbalance. This is the future of preventative healthcare. We measure your HRV at every visit to ensure that your body is responding well to care. Even though our treatments are designed to be highly therapeutic, they still introduce stress—so we want to be sure your system can process it constructively. Over time, we often see HRV scores rise, reflecting a better-regulated, more resilient nervous system. While most people in the general population average between 20–60ms, our goal is to help patients exceed 100ms, which is considered the top 96th percentile. For perspective, Dr. G—who has received care like this for years and lives a holistic lifestyle—has an average HRV of 211ms, one of the highest ever recorded.
  • Do you accept insurance?
We completely understand the desire to use health insurance—many of our patients have great plans. While we’d love to accept insurance, since we are specialized, insurance doesn't accept us. Insurance is designed for emergency or crisis care—not treatment like ours. This model allows us to work directly for you and your long-term health, not an insurance company’s priorities.  We do, however, accept HSA and FSA cards.
  • Wait... you help animals, too?
Yes! We’ve partnered with Dr. Jessica Hollis, a certified animal chiropractor. She sees small animals—like dogs and cats—right here in our office, and also offers mobile visits for larger animals such as horses and farm animals. Just like us, animals experience stress, tension, and imbalance. Through gentle chiropractic care, Dr. Hollis helps align their spine, joints, and nervous system—so they can move better, feel better, and enjoy a higher quality of life.
  • Do I need X-rays?
In most cases, yes. We take digital X-rays and/or 3D Cone Beam CT scans to get a clear, precise view of your spine and structure. Cone Beam CT is cutting-edge, state-of-the-art technology—and one of the lowest radiation imaging options available today. To not see is to guess—and we don’t guess when it comes to your health. These images help us create the safest, most accurate, and most personalized plan for your care.
  • Can I get treated even if I'm pregnant?
Absolutely. We love supporting moms through pregnancy—and caring for their little ones after birth. Pregnancy is one of the most incredible times in life, with rapid changes that can create discomfort for both mom and baby. It’s also a time when many want to avoid medications or invasive procedures. Our care focuses on gently aligning the pelvic and spinal structures to support a more comfortable pregnancy and optimal space for the growing baby. We also assess newborns after birth. The birth process—especially at the junction where the skull meets the spine—can place stress on delicate tissues that influence early neurological development. Balancing these areas supports the baby’s righting reflex and helps prevent compensations that can interfere with growth and development.
  • Does this helped with baseball performance?
Absolutely. We work with elite baseball players of all ages to improve hand-eye coordination, reaction time, and shoulder-elbow alignment—key components of both performance and injury prevention. We’ve partnered with Ohio Baseball Science Academy to provide advanced assessments that measure throwing velocity, spin rate, spin efficiency, spine direction, pitch break, and release height/angle. By combining neurologic optimization with biomechanical tracking, we help athletes refine their mechanics, enhance performance, and stay on the field longer.
  • How long does a typical visit take?
Our typical corrective and maintenance visits take about 10-30min and our initial consultation and progress exams are very through and take about an hour.
  • What results can I can I look forward to?
It depends on the specific case and the symptoms, however across the board, most patients report: Better posture and alignment Decreased pain and tension Improved energy, sleep, and focus A greater sense of resilience and well-being from better nervous system function We focus on functional outcomes—not just pain relief—so you can perform and feel your best long-term.
  • Can you help kids?
Absolutely! Kids often respond even faster than adults because their bodies haven’t spent years compensating for long-standing imbalances. Addressing these issues early can make a significant impact on their development and long-term health. Many parents bring their children to us for support with scoliosis prevention, attention and learning challenges, neurological development, athletic performance, injury prevention, immune function, anxiety, and autism spectrum-related concerns. By improving brain-body communication early on, we help set the stage for stronger, more resilient growth.
  • Can seniors benefit from brain-body balance?
Absolutely. Two of our top priorities when caring for seniors are slowing down degeneration and preventing falls—both of which can greatly impact quality of life. As we age, joint mobility—especially in the spine—tends to decrease, leading to stiffness, pain, tingling, and functional decline. Worse, when joints don’t move well, they’re more likely to degenerate or fuse over time. One of the biggest risks for seniors is falling, often due to declining balance, coordination, and reaction time. At Vital Balance, we work to sharpen these key functions through brain-body optimization, helping prevent serious accidents and keep you moving confidently and safely through life.
  • What does a typical visit look like?
Every visit at Vital Balance is tailored to your unique care or maintenance plan, but here’s a general framework to help you know what to expect: Heart Rate Variability (HRV) Scan – We begin by measuring your HRV to assess how adaptable your nervous system is that day. This helps us tailor your treatment intensity based on how well your body can handle and integrate the care. NeuroStructural Assessment – Next, we perform a brief check-in to identify which phase of your corrective process you're in. We focus on three core structural and myofascial patterns, helping us pinpoint the exact areas of imbalance and how your brain and body are communicating that day. Oxygen Priming – A short guided breathing session helps flood your brain with oxygen, creating the ideal internal environment for neural rewiring and regeneration. Spinal Alignment & Neurologic Stimulation – You’ll receive specific adjustments to restore alignment, followed by brain-based stimulation such as eye coordination drills, reaction time training, balance and vibration work, or proprioceptive exercises—depending on your needs. Advanced Therapies – Based on your case, we may incorporate therapies like anti-gravity traction, intersegmental mobilization, or spinal decompression for deeper structural support. Hydrogen Therapy Recovery – Each visit ends with hydrogen therapy, delivering to the brain the antioxidant power equivalent of 73 apples to support neurologic recovery and cellular healing.
  • What is Orthospinology? Why do you do that?
Orthospinology is a highly specialized spinal alignment technique focused on the delicate top three bones of the neck—known as the craniocervical junction. This area houses and protects the brainstem and has a powerful influence over the entire nervous system. Using state-of-the-art 3D CBCT imaging, we can see exactly how these vertebrae are misaligned and apply precise mathematical coordinates to guide correction. We then use the Orthospinology instrument—a gentle, motorized percussive stylus—to make the adjustment. It’s one of the safest, most precise techniques which is most important in this area. Because of the craniocervical junction’s deep connection to brainstem function, blood flow, and balance, even a slight misalignment can throw off the body's entire foundation. The head, which weighs as much as a bowling ball, rests on a small six-gram bone. When that bone tilts off-axis, it can cause your head to lean and stay tilted—leading to muscular imbalances, altered blood flow into and out of the brain, and stress on the vestibular (balance) system. After your correction, we take follow-up imaging to ensure the adjustment was made accurately—no guessing, no assumptions.
  • What is the brain scan you offer?
The eyes are truly the window into the brain. At Vital Balance, we use the RightEye Brain Camera System—a cutting-edge technology originally developed for NASA—that tracks your eye movements by capturing 90 images per second as you complete a series of simple tasks. This FDA-cleared, patented system produces a detailed report showing which areas of your brain may be underperforming. It helps us pinpoint exactly where to focus treatment for the most precise and personalized neurologic correction. The scan also evaluates: Brain processing speed Visual tracking and coordination Post-concussion function Neurologic performance related to attention, focus, and cognitive efficiency We retest periodically throughout your care to ensure your brain is responding and progressing in the right direction. This powerful tool gives us deep insight into your neurologic foundation—so we can help you achieve optimal brain-body balance.
