AUTISM SPECTRUM

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental condition that affects how the brain processes sensory information, movement, communication, and social connection. Every individual on the spectrum is unique—but many share challenges related to sensory integration, postural control, emotional regulation, and neurologic overstimulation.

At Vital Balance, we do not treat autism—we support the nervous system function of individuals with autism by identifying and correcting neurologic imbalances that may contribute to sensory overwhelm, poor regulation, and developmental delays. Our goal is to help the brain and body communicate more efficiently, so each individual can better express their full potential.

How We Support Individuals on the Autism Spectrum:

1. Functional Neurologic Evaluation
Our in-depth assessment looks at how different parts of the brain are functioning and communicating. This includes:

  • Eye movement tracking and reflex testing

  • Gait and postural symmetry analysis

  • Brainstem and cerebellar function screening

  • Proprioception and vestibular integration

  • Sensory processing evaluation (tactile, visual, movement-based)

We focus especially on the brainstem, cerebellum, and frontal cortex—regions that play key roles in regulation, movement control, sensory filtering, and executive function.

2. Upper Cervical Correction and Brainstem Support
Many children and adults on the spectrum show signs of upper cervical misalignment, often stemming from early developmental stressors (birth trauma, falls, or chronic postural strain). Misalignment at the C1/C2 region can interfere with:

  • Vagal tone and parasympathetic regulation

  • Sensory-motor integration

  • Posture, coordination, and balance

  • Attention and self-soothing

We use gentle, non-invasive corrections to restore alignment at the top of the spine, which improves brain-body communication and reduces neurologic tension without forceful manipulation or cracking.

3. Sensory Integration & Neuro-Motor Retraining
We provide personalized neurologic exercises that help retrain how the brain processes movement and sensory input. These may include:

  • Eye-tracking and gaze stability drills

  • Balance and coordination tasks

  • Proprioceptive movement patterns

  • Primitive reflex integration

  • Rhythmic, calming vestibular stimulation

These exercises are designed to improve body awareness, emotional control, postural stability, and adaptive processing—especially for individuals who are sensitive to light, sound, texture, or movement.

4. Nervous System-Calming Environment
Our office is intentionally quiet, grounded, and supportive of sensory-sensitive individuals. We honor the need for gentle pacing, clear routines, and respectful communication, working with each family to make the experience safe and positive.

Who We Support
We work with:

  • Children and teens diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder

  • Sensory-sensitive children (even without formal diagnosis)

  • Adults on the spectrum looking to improve self-regulation

  • Parents seeking natural, neurologic-based support for behavior, sleep, or coordination

Why This Approach Matters
When the nervous system is overwhelmed, disorganized, or underdeveloped in key areas, life becomes harder—especially for someone who already processes the world differently. By reducing neurologic interference and building healthier input loops between the body and brain, we aim to help individuals with autism feel safer, move with more ease, and function with more confidence.

We honor each person’s uniqueness, and we’re here to support—not fix—them.

If you’re looking for a natural, neurologically-based way to support brain and body function for someone on the spectrum, schedule a consultation. We’d love to walk that journey with you.
