PREGNANCY AND NEWBORNS

Pregnancy and early development are two of the most neurologically sensitive times in a person’s life. Small imbalances in a mother’s nervous system during pregnancy—or subtle tension patterns in a newborn—can ripple outward to affect everything from birth outcomes to motor development, digestion, sleep, and beyond.

At Vital Balance Brain + Spine, we provide gentle, neurologically-centered chiropractic care to support healthy development, smooth transitions, and optimal brain-body connection—from womb to world.

For Expecting Mothers

Why Prenatal Neurologic Care Matters

During pregnancy, a mother’s spine, pelvis, and nervous system undergo constant change. As the baby grows and the center of gravity shifts, it's common for imbalances to form in the:

  • Pelvis and sacrum, which affects the uterus and fetal positioning

  • Thoracic spine and diaphragm, which influence breathing and blood flow

  • Cervical spine and brainstem, which regulate autonomic tone, stress response, and hormone balance

When left uncorrected, these subtle dysfunctions can contribute to:

  • Pelvic misalignment

  • Sciatica and back pain

  • Hormonal imbalance and poor sleep

  • Increased stress load on mom and baby

  • Longer or more difficult labor

Our Prenatal Focus Includes:

  • Balancing the pelvis to create ideal space for baby’s growth and movement

  • Calming the nervous system through brainstem-focused adjustments

All care is gentle, non-invasive, and tailored to each stage of pregnancy. We also provide pre-labor neurologic activation sessions to help mothers feel strong, calm, and connected as they prepare for birth.

For Newborns & Infants

Birth is the First Neurologic Stress Test

Even in a smooth delivery, the birth process places tremendous strain on a baby’s neck, skull, and nervous system. The upper cervical spine (C1/C2) and cranial structures are especially vulnerable to:

  • Compression during vaginal birth

  • Rotational forces during C-section or assisted deliveries

  • Tension from poor latching, tongue ties, or prolonged pushing

If left uncorrected, these misalignments can contribute to:

  • Colic and digestive issues

  • Poor sleep or hyper-arousal

  • Torticollis and plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome)

  • Difficulty breastfeeding or latching

  • Delays in motor milestones and sensory integration

The Three Core Developmental Tests We Use at Vital Balance:

  1. Righting Reflex
This innate reflex helps keep the baby’s head level to the horizon and indicates proper vestibular and postural development—foundational to rolling, crawling, and walking.

  2. Cross-Crawl Sequencing
This neurologic movement pattern underlies the brain’s ability to coordinate left and right hemispheres, integrate reflexes, and form efficient neural circuits.

These reflexive and postural patterns are often overlooked by traditional pediatric evaluations—but they provide critical insight into how well the brain and body are working together in the first months of life.

Our Newborn Care Is:

  • Gentle and precise (no cracking or twisting)

  • Focused on cranial and upper cervical tension release

  • Designed to support feeding, digestion, and sleep

  • Rooted in cutting-edge neurodevelopmental science

We also offer guidance for parents on sensory-safe environments, tummy time, primitive reflex integration, and early stimulation to support optimal brain wiring from day one.
